family photojournalism ::: the kuchan family (again)
What is unique about this season of life together as a family?
Mickey is new but not so new that he's sleepy all the time anymore. Al shows him attention and affection and he covers his ears when Mickey cries. Meris loves to hold Mickey but he's almost too big for her to hold confidently. Kupa is getting up in years but is still healthy.

If you never step foot in your house again, what are the memories you'd want to keep with you forever?
The old imperfect house where we first lived as a family. The simple activities and moments with A____. The feeling of our home being cozy, loving, and simple (and often messy!).

Summertime. It was a lovely summer. I loved coming to this family’s custom-built new home to document some of their life together since they added a second daughter. Such a thoughtful house, such a loving family, such a chubby baby. All the goodness.

“I'll follow you into the park
Through the jungle, through the dark
Girl, I never loved one like you…
Ah, home, let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you”

Home. It is warmth and rest, it’s safety and mess, it’s nourishment and play. It’s all of these things. And when we aren’t REQUIRED to be in/at them 24/7 for weeks on end, it is a place to which we retreat and recharge between our ventures into the wider world. Thank God for home.
I’m missing joining you in your homes, friends, capturing moments like these that seem so ordinary and possibly even annoying… and yet right about now, I bet we all have an evolving and novel set of feelings about all that home is and is not.
When all of this Stay Home, Stay Safe business is over, let’s make a date to make some photos of the place you were just “trapped” in for weeks, ok?
Until then, I leave you with this sweet set of images of a very loving, connected family full of ingenuity and intellectual curiosity as well as a love for Jesus. I think you’ll feel right at home, just as I did.
